Spatial Simulation of AMPK Nuclear-Cytoplasmic Shuttling- Ye Chen, Niamh Connolly

I will investigate a model published in 2012 (Davila et al). Niamh Connolly will help explain the biology - in their model, pAMPK acts on the transcription factor FoxO3 in two ways, leading to Bim expression and apoptosis. However, FoxO3 and AMPK shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. I will investigate the effect that this could have on the expression levels of Bim. I will perform spatial simulations in VCell modeling the movement and reactions of these proteins between the compartments.
